ANT+ for now. There is a new Bluetooth spec that supports low energy devices that is slowly making it's way into mobile phones sometime next year. When this becomes more prevelant and fitness profiles are defined within the standards bodies and consumers are ready for this new technology (there are limitations currently to having only one paired device at a time) then it might make sense. For now, we are paying close attention to where this technology is going.
Do you use a Bluetooth HRM today?
At the moment I do not use any heart rate monitor because I was waiting to Adidas, based on bluethoot I am owner of a mobile phone based on Android system. I know only SE with android system supports ANT +. The latest information should give you food for thought:
"Recent studies of the U.S. market, mobile platforms conducted by analyst comScore, does not bring any major changes. Android system is still the most popular, noting in July, 41.8 percent of the result."
For the system (miCoach) to be sold in the largest segment of mobile – android you should invest in HRM bluethoot or share applications that will handle the Polar HRM bluethoot.

We hear you loud and clear and know that android is a huge opportunity for us in supporting heart rate based coaching to all the athletes with that platform. It is our intent to keep the miCoach iPhone and android apps on par with each other but given the same team works on both platforms you will see new features show up first on one platform before being released later on the other platform. Sometimes there are technical reasons why a feature is available first on a specific platform so it is not always the case that a feature is rolled out on the next.
It is for me the most understandable. I have no pretensions about the fact that HRM is available on the iPhone platform as the first. My question is: Is it worth waiting?Does the android platform will be HRM? In what time frame? Will it be this year or maybe next in the spring? I am not interested at this time pedometer just about any version of HRM in the system compatible with the android. I think these are thequestions raised by many users miCoach android platform. We are no longerchildren and not have to be happy the waiting. Just us, short and reliable information type to the end of September will probably be a version of HRM forandroid - and that's it.
jon, can we count on any information on the HRM for Android?
hello Jon,
1,5 year passed, android is spreading, i think there is more micro-usb phone slots on the market than iPhone's 30pin not to mention lightning connectors, BT4/Smart is out there for months and you can not add hrm/stride functionality to android app?
I used iphone's micoach for several months, successfully training running from couch (furniture;) mode to 10km and now preparing for 1/2marathon. I use micoach 4days a week and today changed phone from iP4 to HTC One and... you know what I found or rather didn't found in android's micoach...
I would even accept running with micoach usb dongle connected through usb/microusb cable but still have to have app functionality to connect to hrm and speedcell...
may I ask you for information if you are WORKING on hrm/stride functionality for android or still PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION as you named it months ago?
if you are working - would you be so kind to precise when it would be available
if you are just paying attention - what is the trigger start dev?
thank you for an answer
Why? Why not complain to the Android makers to turn on their ANT+ radios? Many handsets already have them inside. Sony, so far, is the only one with their newest Xperia line to actually have the ANT+ radio active. Why complain to adidas when its the handset makers that have crippled their devices. iPhones have not ANT+ radio, so it makes sense to develop and sell them a dongle.
I think the ANT + technology is ok, but given the fact that it is only developed and should give customers a choice. You can cash in on the current technology bluethoot and after a few years of the same customers persuaded to change and make again. I think that today has a contract with Adidas SE, and they want customers to buymobile SE ![]()
So are there any news for Android HRM implementation. I agree with Kosik, and would like to know if the support is in development or not? And if it is what is planned date of release?
I have tried a lot of training app and miCoach is the one I think includes all the needed features (expecially the audio allert when you go out the zone, essential!), but I cannot use it because it has no BT HRM support
.
I agree totaly with Kosic1979. Why ask to hundred of Andorid developers to active Ant+ radio instead ask to Adidas only to simply integrate wide used bluetooth technology, without having the need to build a Bluetooth HRM because is already on the market (Polar BT)???
"new Bluetooth spec that supports low energy devices": what is it? Why wait for it? I use HRM with BT2.0 and I have a minimum cunsumption of the battery of my Android phone.
I do not see any technical reason why not implement BT support now, but unluckily there are I think "commercial" reasons too...
I have to agree with ziki77; why wait?
I don't see why phone makers should put more radio support into their handsets (ANT+).
We all have bluetooth, it's been working for years. I used my first bluetooth GPS 10 years ago(!), without any battery issues whatsoever, running it for hours and hours.
Bluetooth 4 I'm sure will be great, but I don't see the reason why we shouldn't be able to use HRMs and such with bluetooth < 4.0 ...
I was a MiCoach user.. Until i bought a HRM Polar with Bluetooth tecnology... Then, i became a Sports-Tracker user... Not happy, but, what can i do ?
For me, MiCoach is the best app for runners. And it´s amazing when you have your heart rate into the app, but the Addidas HRM is to expensive and not compatible with all cellphones options... The bluetooth option is much better and works perfect... I have a Motorola Defy and i was very worried about the battery consumption... And the result is excellent ! I can use it for hours with no problem... And exercises usually have just one hour of duration, so, what´s the point ? Normally i run with GPS, Bluetooth and music, all at the same time... I charge my cellphone every night (motorola recomendations) and his battery still working all the next day, even when i run... Actually, my battery can work fine until 2 days... Something about 36 hours... I´m a hard user, with email (two accounts), facebook and other aplications accessed through my phone...
Today, i´m using Sports-Tracker, just because the HRM BT. Sports-Tracker is beautiful (specialy in the web), but MiCoach is better application... MiCoach is a coach, coaching you during the race... Sports-Tracker is just a beautiful report about your work, but just after you finish it... So, is nice to check your performance and compare with others exercises... But i missing MiCoach. MiCoach have a amazing Blog with nice tips, to much more information. If MiCoach starts to read HRM BT, i´ll come back to it...
I agree with eberk9. So my question is, what do people need to get Adidas atention in this matter?
With bluetooth 4.0, there is no reason to delay a heart hate monitor branded by Adidas. See this info from bluetooh´s website http://www.bluetooth.com/Pages/Sports-and-Fitness-campaign.aspx.

I am currenlty using micoach with mialpha hrm (bluetooth HRM). works very well together. anybody using the new polar stride sensor with micoach. the sensor has bt 4
Sorry for bumping all the ANT+ threads but i'm a bit pissed... If have an ANT+ compatible phone and bought the micoach hrm sensor to get going only to find out that almost every app supports HRM (ant+ or bluetooth alike) except....micoach...wtf..i would have never guessed that!
How can you pretend to coach people on android if you can't see their heart rate? The one unique selling point of the micoach app is that it actually responds on heart rate (and optional stride sensors ed.) rather than just register. It does not even register now and that is worse than most training apps out there on android.
Even a simple registration of heart rate (untill you manage the full app on android) would be an improvement, not connecting to a sensor at all is plain bad.
please!
i just bought the hrm device for my sony xperia s
And it just dont work!
To bad nou i can only use endemodo?
I have the Adidas HRM sensor and Sony xperia Active phone too, I can use these set-up on Sportypal app and can record the workout including HRM monitoring, it is just sad that there is no option for miCoach android to use HRM coaching. Hope they reconsider.
In my case i used a garmin ant+ rate munitor and woork well!..., bat need others thinks like temprature and Caminhadas and new twmw Cycles in app store,..keep work ADIDAS!...
