I'm looking into purchasing a speed_cell to track my workouts which vary from 2-4 training sessions (football/soccer) plus 3 barefoot runs per week.  The new F50s are prohibitively expensive.  Does the speed_cell have to be placed in a certain way?  (e.g. Can I wear it on a strap on my ankle?  Or does it have to be placed on top / bottom of the foot?)

Accuracy in measurement is of highest importance to me, and I'd appreciate the best answers the forum can provide.

Cheers.

  • Hi JumpUpandDown,

    Thanks for the post.

You can wear the SPEED_CELL either in the miCoach compatible shoe or on the shoe lace using the lace clip.

When wearing on the shoe lace using the lace clip, the adidas logo must face up.

If you have miCoach compatible shoes, remove the lace clip and place the SPEED_CELL in the midsole cavity after removing the insole. This time the adidas logo must face down when inserted in the cavity.

You may wear it on the shoe lace or on a strap on your ankle using the lace clip. However, you need to be careful when kicking the ball.

I wouldn't recommend you to wear it inside shoe if you don't have miCoach compatible shoes as it can get damaged when stepping on it directly.

Some users wear it inside the sock at the lower part of the leg but it may affect the data accuracy.

There is another thread where users discuss about it. Maybe you can get some useful information from other users as well. Please have a look:

As we have got many similar questions from users who don't have miCoach compatible shoes, I am checking this with our football players and engineers to find out how and where the SPEED_CELL should be placed to get the optimal data.

I will inform you as soon as I get some information from them.

    Thanks,

      • Hi JumpUpandDown,

        Sorry for the delayed response.

Here is the information I've got from our developers.

Wearing the SPEED_CELL on the shoe laces using the lace clip or in the cavity of miCoach compatible shoes will allow for the highest level of data accuracy. If it is used in any other way than recommended (with lace clip or in cavity), adidas does not gurantee the same level of data accuracy.

    • Sporty Spider i brought my boots F50's and then decided to buy a cell, unfortunately the boots i brought do not have the cavity inside of them. i've used the cell in my shinpads for 4 games now, but i'm not entirely convinved that the correct info is being recorded eg it's only saying i've covered 2 miles ... i appreciate the advice from addidas (you'll only get accurate info if you put it into the shoe cavity, but since i don't have them, i can't). Anyway, the long and short of my point is have you found an alternative place for your cell that you think it producing accurate info ? i notice the question was asked in the post above and you said you would try and find out - have you had any luck with this ?
