Speed cell without F50's

Hi, is anyone using the speed cell without the boots and placing it in their sock or elsewhere? If so, is the data accurate or does it effect the speed cell? I'm very interested in this product but not really in the mood to buy new boots.

    i just received my and felt a bit deceived.why? bc the boots are $200 or more right, when i saw the chip which you could secure on your cleat' lace (as you tie your lace) why did i buy the $200 shoe.You can buy $120 adizero and tie this to your cleats lace..but to be sure i gotta try out in both ways if any difference after the few games.

    i'v did what u trying to do pedro~ but unfortunately i found that the ball will actually hit the speedcell during you play, and i'v also tried slip it inside my stock behind my shin guard but it's quite uncomfortable and sweating might spoilt it...

    Thanks for info guys. I will purchase it and try by attaching it to my shin guard strap. If that does not work I will look into buying the shoes.

      I wear mine on my soccer boot laces on the left shoe (non-dominant foot). I noticed this weekend that sometimes (collisons or movement) it can pop off. I will be trying to tape it for more vigorous workouts.

       

      I'll defer to the Speed Cell experts, but I imagine the higher up the device goes on your leg, the varied the results will be since its calibrated for foot movement.

        I wear it clipped onto but under my laces (so it's upside down) on my left foot - I'm fairly right-footed. It works OK although I am nervous about losing it on the pitch. It's been OK for 2 games of 5-a-side not sure how it would work for 11-a-side on grass with slide tackles etc.

         

        Bad thing is it shows that I walk around the pitch a lot more than I thought I did.

          I would be afraid of it breaking by putting it on my laces. Once I receive it I will try by putting it in my sock. I can't imagine how the chip will know where I placed it. Only one way to find out and that's by trying it.

    I use a hair elastic (my daughter's lol) and tie it around my ankle, it sits on the inside of my ankle between the ankle bone and the heel.....shouldn't be much contact there, ball or opponent!

     

    also, I put it on my weaker foot. I'm ok with the results, and I don't really feel it at all in game.

      Have you noticed a difference in the accuracy of the device when wearing it behind the ankle?  I'm interesed in using it to measure several different sports where I can't always put the device on the laces (football, barefoot running, etc.).  Accuracy would probably be most affected over several kilometers.

        Hi,

         

        I used it once under my laces and once strapped to my ankle under my socks - both readings were actually very similar so I will do so again. I did try to buy some indoor footbal boots from Adidas thinking you could put the sensor inside (on the MiCoach website it seems to show the sensor being put in the sole...) but they said there weren't any. Felt a bit cross about that. So it's behind the ankle from now on.

        I've worn it on my shoes when on the treadmill (to track my workouts with the original micoach app), haven't noticed much of a difference. I think you'd notice more of a difference if you'd put the speedcell further up the leg, because the swinging motion is reduced. Having it at the back of the foot probably resembles the movement of the front/middle of the foot well enough.

    I'm in the process of making a carbon fiber 'pod' that will attach to the front of the shin pad with double sided 3M tape and completely encapsulate the speedcell. The carbon will provide the same level of protection as a full carbon shinpad and only add about 15-20g. Not sure on cost yet. Probably looking at 2-3 weeks before they are available (still refining/testing).

      This sounds like a good idea. I'd be interested in seeing the final product and possibly purchasing it. Keep me in the loop.

      In theory the shin doesn't swing as much as the foot, so do you think you may encounter calibration issues?

        I'm testing with my sons help. He has some F50s so it will be easy to compare data to verify if the shin vs. foot is an issue or not. In theory even if it is slightly differnet (from the foot) it may not be a show stopper as you are really looking for an improvement in performance over time so all the data is relative. i.e. if the whole season your sensor is on the shin pad then its an apples to apples comparison. Of course this may not tally with another player that has a foot mounted sensor. Anyway enough of the theory. I will be testing in the next week and completing the proto's soon after.

    I heard from an adidas rep that they will be coming out with cheaper shoes/cleats that have the spot for the speed cell-this spring.  I use it in my boot but got them for xmas...not sure if I will ever get the 200 dollar shoes again.

    Hi Marc Da Silva,

     

    Thank you all for sharing your experiences.

     

    Wearing the SPEED_CELL on the shoe laces using the lace clip of in the cavity of miCoach compatible shoes will allow for the highest level of data accuracy. If it is used in any other way than recommended (with lace clip or in cavity), adidas does not gurantee the same level of data accuracy.

    I used it on my shin guards and it works. The shi guard provides extra protection.

    Hi guys, wondering if anyone can help me, im a noob when it comes to this but here goes.

    I bought the speed cell chip a few days ago, replaced the battery with a new one and synced it to my iphone. I played a game of 11's tonight with the sprint cell on the strap on my shin guard and played 90 minutes. When i got home and synced it again, it hadnt picked up anything at all. Is there any reason for this or do i have to sync the device before i play everytime or is there a site someone can direct me to? Atm im feeling pretty gutted that it picked up nothing and hoping its just because im such a mong and cant do it properly.
