Come on Adidas....where's the mobile app for Android???

Making a big mistake leaving us out in the cold....perhaps Nike+ wants us more.

  • Hi,

I got such a reply from miCoach support:

    "

Thank you for your email and your interest in our products.

Yes we are planning to release a mobile app for the Android. But please understand that I cannot give you a date.

You will be notified on the website as you have been now.

    "

So we'll have to wait, I guess.

  • +1 for this request

I have a Garmin watch and the Pacer that both feed from the signal from the Pacer's foot pod and HRM

I've tried very carefully trying to calibrate them (I ran precisely 5K then told both devices that)  and had high hopes that they would give very close results since they were both getting data from the same sources.

Yet in today's run Pacer said I'd done 21K and Garmin says 18K.

I give up! It's GPS for me now, and I've just bought an Android phone for separate reasons so an Android app is really needed!

  • android is coming in a later release. Just curious as too which android devices folks are willing to run with as some of the recent versions are a bit large.

    • I've got an HTC Desire and an arm strap for an iphone. I currently use the Cardio Trainer app from the Android Market, but I'm very keen to get something better. Quess I'll have to wait for word from Addidas or just go ahead with Nike+ . It would be easier to decide if Addidas gave a date for the apps release!

      • Is Cardio Trainer any good?

Just had a look on their website

        Race Against Yourself

        $2.99 Premium Feature

        Record your workouts with

        CardioTrainer and then race

        against your best times

is a feature I'd really like to try

        • Cardio Trainer or MyMapRun is basically good. Easy setup and working fine in my Galaxy S or Motorola Milestone for few months with me in my outdoor runs. Try the Free version with basic features.

      • I asked the same question about Windows Mobile and they gave me almost the same answer...

I say "almost" because it made me think that it was not on their roadmap yet... :-(

    • HTC MyTouch 4G........

I really want this app plaese!..... Thank you!

  • Yeah I think i'm going to be upgrading to either a Samsung Galaxy S or HTC Desire... so either of them would be just perfect.

  • +1

  • +1

  • + 1 from me too.

  • There are over 200 different android devices out in the wild each potentially running a slightly different GPS sensor with varying degrees of accuracy. Looking at the reviews from several other GPS fitness tracking apps it seems these are running into issues with GPS not working or not providing a quality user experience on certain device models. The task to test and provide quality control across all of these devices is quite daunting to say the least. Much different than rolling out on the iPhone or a fixed number of Blackberry models.

As potential android customers, how would you like to be alerted if your specific device does not meet the accuracy required to run miCoach? As a consumer, I would be quite frustrated if this happened to me. Note what is being reported about the Samsung Galaxy S, a very popular android mobile phone with GPS accuracy problems that will be getting a fix soon, hopefully. This may be an edge case but I doubt it. Too many android devices are being cranked out every week and if the device manufacturers are not fully testing their GPS for pedestrian (slower than driving) use then apps like miCoach could be blamed for poor user experiences.

    Just curious.

    • I do see how this could be a serious problem.

Yet I would tend to believe that even a bad GPS would be far superior to a stride sensor if only for the longer distances.

Practical results could prove me wrong, but it's amazing that we put any faith at all in a stride sensor to accuartely determine distance over the course of thousands and thousands of steps.

I have a Pacer and a Garmin watch that both feed off information from the same stride sensor. I did a 5k run to calibrate and told them both that I'd done exactly 5k. Yet in my most recent run the Garmin thinks I did just over 20k and the Pacer thinks I did 23+.

So even with perfect (as I could make it) calibration and when the two devices recieve absolutely identical data, the mathematics they use have led them to give completely different results.

There are also many anacdotal stories both on this forum and the Garmin forum of people getting different results when wearing different shoes, or wearing their sensor on a different foot.

    • I think your example of the Galaxy S is a perfect example of how Android in general addresses its problems.  The users found an issue and the maker of the phone is now pushing out a fix.  I know my original Droid had an issue when it first came out with the GPS and it was fixed within a month, and the Galaxy S issues is being addressed within a couple of months.

You imply that this is easier on a single platform like the iPhone, but I would disagree with this.  From my understanding Bim never created a iPhone based version of Bimactive due to the flakiness of the iPhone GPS, and if you look at this forum, the thread with the  number one number of views in "where is the android version",  the number two spot deals with iPhone GPS issues.  I feel the competition between Android platforms does a good job policing the platform, where as the iPhone has had issues for many many years without any resolution.

On a side note, what are the chances of the Android version of micoach supporting the heart rate monitor.  Many Androind platforms already support ANT+ and several programs in the market support this feature.  I also believe that Adidas has a blutooth HRM :-)

      Thanks!

      • We are pretty bullish on android and the number of views on this topic validates our internal development priorities going forward. That's all I can say for now.

        • Good to hear. I love my miCoach and having the ability to map my routes with an Android phone would be a great upgrade, and I'd be willing to pay $25 or more for it. BUT it will only be useful if I will be able to use my Pacer WITH the phone, not separately. Having my heart rate data is of utmost importance.

          • Hi dzajic and runners!

Thank you for your feedback.  Please keep sharing your valuable suggestions, adidas appreciates your commitment.

            miCoach team

        • Yes, you are pretty bullish. One year ago! It is progress!

  • droid does.

  • Any news? I have a samsung galaxy and waiting  for the application to him.

    • When we are about to launch I will send a post so that you can know when to start looking in the android market.

    • Fellow runners,

Try CardioTrainer or MyMapRun in Android environment. Im using both for few months and it's working good with my Galaxy S and Motorola Milestone. Free version with good basic features enough for monitoring your loved sports like marathon or run trackable using GPS built with your mobile phone. Just sharing this to all looking for e-gears to equip you when you are running outdoor.

Hope you will be equipped with either for those who will run this upcoming Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2010 on 05 Dec 2010. Configuration / setup is simple.

      Cheers.

  • Micoach better step it up and get the droid on board. Slackin

    • will miCoach send out an email when Android finally got support ?

I recently upgraded to an HTC Desire, but am still using my BlackBerry and miCoach to track my runs.  In my opinion there is no alternative to the fantastic miCoach software.

I really hope miCoach for Android will be available before the end of the year.

      Regards

  • check out the android market adidas micoach has some competition now just search "BOOM" and you'll  see what I mean :)

  • they've been saying Android is coming since August... don't hold your breath...

I found an app (tracker) that works and does pretty much what "this" one is supposed to do... check it out...

SportsTracker (also a Pro version with a $9 and change one time fee) www.sportstracklive.com

it does live tracking for MULTIPLE activities... cycling, running, ski, snowboard, sailing etc.

    Just Sayin'

    • Well, I am still trying to hold out a little hope.  I used Bimactive up to a year ago when I got my Motorola Droid, and I really loved it.  I know micoach is totally different, but the design team is the same so hopefully they will have some influence with Adidas.

With that being said, right now I am using Endomondo with a wireless heart rate monitor.  For me to come back to  micoach, they will definitely need to have HRM support out of the box.

      Christopher

      • I hear you...

I was a BIM user up until this September when my Storm crashed for its last time. I truly wished I could have stayed with BIM. What I have now at Sportstracker is the closest thing I have found to BIM.

I wish miCoach would get their act together and not exclude one of the LARGEST OS in the business.

  • see if Adidas came out with the app for android already I'd buy some adidas tennis shorts, polos and barricades not to mention some supernova running shoes because I dont like to mismatch brands when I play tennis. so with them taking so long I already thinking about buying new nike stuff because obviously adidas can't get there stuff together

    • So I also have started using Cardiotrainer on Android and I highly recommend it to anyone else having trouble finding a proper running program for Android.

During the weekend of thanksgiving they had a great turkey widget on where you had to run to burn the turkey.

3000calories, and every time you run a piece of the turkey is removed: great motivation !

  • Well I finally got fed up of waiting and downloaded RunKeeper Pro on my Android phone... its FREE until the end of Jan so would recommend everyone give it a try.

I'm very surprised / dissappointed that a company the size of, and with the resources of Adidas can't / won't make MiCoach work on Android but a small company can make RunKeeper Pro work without excuses of hardware problems.....

  • I have been using Cardio Trainer with my HTC Desire since April 2010 works great.

I am very disapoined in Adidas.

    • I am also a huge Adidas fan all f my sports gear are made by Adidas, but since Adidas decided not to support the largest phone OS, I have also decided to mix brands with regards to gear.

I am currently using Cardiotrainer an excellent program for Android.

Recently put over 400miles on my shoes and decided to rather go with Asics Nimbus 12.

  • where is it already?

In the time this thread has been active, I have burned 34817 cals, lost 60 pounds and logged 245.47 miles using a combination of my Pacer and the Mobile app---but I'll be ditching my blackberry 8900 soon for an android.  So, lets get out already!

  • Please Adidas team, give us good news and release micoach for Android....... much appreciated!

  • wait too for Android app realise!

  • EVO user here, waiting with the rest of the WORLD for something to show up in the ANDROID market.

  • +1

I want to use my HTC Desire with micoach.

  • Another for Evo...

  • So it's march 23rd...sun is shining...18° in Germany...a new running year starts (at least for me ) - but still no android app Cant believe it's so difficult too fix the GPS issues or that android is that much worse than the iPhone.

Why not take the most popular android cells and at least support them, if you cant do all of them? You do the same thing with Blackberrys. Ok, I know it's not exactly the same, but there must be a way. This thread is a couple of month old now and nothing happened so far (at least apparing to the customers).

Please give us a hint whats going on behind the adidas walls and when we can expect the android app.

    Appreciate it!

Greetings to the homebase from Zirndorf, Bavaria

    • Hallo dlite und Servus!

We are pleased to tell you that miCoach will soon be bringing to market an app for the Android device. Unfortunately we are currently unable to inform you of an exact date of release.  However we can tell you that the tentative date being shared is April 2011.

      Your miCoach team

Mach's gut und viel Spaß beim Laufen!

      • This is fantastic news! Thank you very much! I look forward to this coming in April!

      • April 2011... almost... I can hardly wait!

      • Today is April 22..... how many time we must to wait to use micoach in my android mobile??

        Thanx!

        • I'm with you Waji! I check the android market everyday for Micoach. Lets get this thing started. Do you need testers Adidas? Want to run a beta version? Let me know! I am happy to help. I just need this software please... I am tired of logging runs to other programs knowing that I will switch as soon as you can get this new software released......

That being said.... Thank you for the free software! Hopefully it will blow our socks off!

          • With you on that.

I check the Android market daily and getting tired of getting the message:

We couldn't find anything for your search - micoach.

            Suggestions:

            • Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
            • Try different keywords.
            • Try more general keywords.

I am currently using Cardiotrainer and so far its an awesome app and they also have regular updates.  Already starting to think maybe I should rather stay loyal to Cardiotrainer, at least the program has been there from the start.  Another program that I have been reading up on Endomondo, sounds very interesting as it also offers voice coaching and support for ANT+

            Will try out Endomondo today.

            • Here's the scoop. Android app was scheduled for the end of this month (April). We had some last minute capabilities added and pulled and this has caused a week delay so keep your eyes peeled. This looks to be our highest quality release for a new platform and we are very excited about it. Thank you for your patience. I will post something to the forum once miCoach is available in the market.

If you are going to Google IO this year, please stop by the Google Sandbox to see miCoach in action and to ask me any questions you may have in person.

              jon

Here are a couple of teaser screen shots. The first one showing the languages supported at launch (English US and Korean are scrolled off) and the second showing the miCoach widget in German

  • The adidas miCoach app for android is now available in the market.

Thank you for all of your patience and please give it a go and provide feedback here in the forums.

    Cheers,

    the mobile miCoach team.

    • Thanks Jon,

Been waiting some time now for the android version to come out.

Just ran my assessment workout and it works great.

      Thanks a lot

    • Thank you, Adidas for making micaoch available in the android market! Woot!

Have been using micoach with my blackberry for a while now and I used it for the first time on my android device (SE Xperia X8) this morning and here are some things i noticed:

      1. First, no option to pause the music. The playlists I use while running is composed of motiontraxx podcasts that has certain BPM's so it would be nice to be able to pause music also as there is this option for the blackberry version.

      2. Unlike in the blackberry version, music doesnt pause while the audio coach is speaking. Great job! Now I won't miss a beat.

      3. When I finished the workout, it registered a score of 0%.  Although I wasn't able to maintain the pace, i dont think the score should be that low.

      4. Is there an option to track the shoe that I used? I didn't notice it if there was. Now I cant edit my workout to include the shoe that I used.

      5. The track is fairly accurate, considering the heavy clouds and the presence of buildings in the area. About +/-3-5meters. Fast GPS-lock too!

      6. I love the widget! Good job!

Although the app for the android isn't perfect (yet), I can now ditch my blackberry during my runs.

      Thank you Adidas!

    • Hi,

First, thanks for the app. I am using it in a X10 Mini Pro and it is working fine. Is there any plans to use it with as a Heart Rate Monitor, so I can use the zones with cardio, like micoach pacer? Thanks in advance.

  • WhooT! Thanks guys! I cant wait to test it out!

    • just ran my first training, a short one on my desire with android 2.3 (oxygen),  worked without problems. Speed recognition was a bit off sometimes compared to my trusted old win 6.1 with rungps which I ran along with it for "proofreading". But all in all a very smooth experience. Better than the blackberry app. Let´s hope it stays stable.

      Thanks!

P.S. The delay was of course unacceptable, I have a team of lawyers checking out possible legal action.

  • Works Fine, no bugs found (so far) Great App!

    wishlist:

    * Dutch voice

    * Connection with Heartrate band (bluetooth?)

    * Adjust zones free, not only topred and top green. (F.I. shift up blue and make yellow smaller)

  • Seriously, I just got my Pacer and installed on my Android, now I find out that it doesn't do realtime monitor of the HRM, come on, the whole point I bought this was to workout in the gym and use HRM for recovery based reps. what a freakin waste of money.

  • Hi,

I am using the Android version of micoach application.

As i can see, there are a lot of people asking about combining the app with HRMs.

Will this function be available in the future releases of mi coach application or do we have to search for similar applications in the android market?

    Thanks!
