Let me start be with this " One in every three smartphones now sold in the US runs Android, giving Google's open-source mobile OS the lead in the booming smartphone market. The "Android army" of handsets from HTC, Motorola and more recently Samsung has catapulted the platform ahead of RIM and Apple based on sale figures. That was taken from APC, I feel so let down by the micoach team that there is no app or even a release date for a micoach android app! Notice that samsung also run android now, the makers of the F110 micoach, yet the micoach team did not even give us android users a second thought, why is this? please leave a few words in the forum! and if you have a few minutes email the micoach team and ask!! if you are like me spending alot of money on micoach - adidas we at least deserve a anwser, thanks for reading

  • I was/am a Bimactive subscriber who was became Micoach and the faq there says "Android devices will also be supported in a later release."

So not right now but soon hopefully.

    • Response from Aidas:

Thank you for your email and your interest in our products.

It is our passion through miCoach to  deliver unsurpassed personal training experiences. Naturally, we are  unable to share information with you on unannounced products however,  please rest assured we are committed to leveraging the latest  technologies to bring innovative and inspirational solutions that enable  our customers to realize their training goals.

Your suggestion will be shared with the responsible department.

so we need to wait for a while...

  • Whoa, hold on there big fella.

android is a major platform for miCoach to be running on but please consider a few realities. Not all android GPS sensore are built the same. Neither are the processor chips powering these bad boys. miCoach is a pretty sophisticated app under the covers and it stresses a lot of the hardware subsystems. This is not just a simple GPS tracking app with some voice prompts thrown in for good measure. This is a dynamic coaching engine that is constantly smoothing GPS to determine when to trigger coaching narration in over six different languages based on a workout plan chooser with thousands of combinations based on your personal fitness level.

That said, I'm sure the miCoach team is working as hard as they can to deliver what you, the consumer, wants.

    • That's not really a valid excuse. Windows/Linux machines are even more different but you can make advanced programs on them.

The developer don't develop for each specific phone, they develop for Android. Android takes care of the hardware.

That being said I really hope they make an app soon.

      • That's easily said than done mate. I'm also a programmer and one aspect of android that makes it a difficult platform to work with is there are too many phones with different hardwares.

IMHO, you'll have to wait for one reason - you're not paying them to do it. In fact, no one is paying them because they distribute the app for free.

        • There are several android platforms that have Ant+ as well.

why not cobrand one, and release a new miCoach android handset that integrates mobile app and pacer.

the motiviation is more pacer sales and additionaly market share with shoes and clothing that follow.

          • Hi all,

I don't think they are planning on implementing ANT+ into their miCoach app. You have to remember, they are making Pacer and Zone also. That is their prime target. Mobile app is an supportive product. I think.

Also their aim was not to compete with Polar, Garmin or Suntoo. They wanted to create something cheaper, less high tech, to reach different potential customers.

About the android, I read somewhere that within the end of this year, they want to release version for android and symbian.

They absolutely *are* competing with garmin and polar by the very nature of offering something cheaper. I'd argue that miCoach mobile and pacer are just as high tech, if not more, than what polar and garmin offer--if only they cooperated together. A mobile app that was tied in to the pacer via ant+ would be a slam dunk. The pacer supports it already, it would seem a natural fit to release an android version that actually had pacer integration via the ant+ in the phone (i.e. HTC)

    • woahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hey moderator chillz dude don't worry about android phones.....droid does

    • Hey I loved micoach on my old blackberry but my phone can't find a GPS signal at all now.

I'm using micoach on a Samsung Galaxy 3. It really is a great app and it really worked well for me on the old phone,

but I can't get anything at all now.

  • see if Adidas came out with the app for android already I'd buy some adidas tennis shorts, polos and barricades not to mention some supernova running shoes because I dont like to mismatch brands when I play tennis. so with them taking so long I already thinking about buying new nike stuff because obviously adidas can't get there stuff together

    • Good luck with Nike. They don't have anything for Android either, and I doubt they are even working on anything. They are partnered with Apple, king of censorship and restricting business partners.

  • Come on Adidas release an Android app for the serious techy runners out there.

Ive used "Cardio Trainer" across a range of hardware, GPS, etc, everything works fine there is no excuse.

  • Hey Android fans!

We are working on an Android version of miCoach that will be worth the wait. Unlike many developers that take their iPhone app experience and duplicate it on Android, we've redesigned miCoach specifically for the platform and have reached out to Google and others for feedback to make this app live up to the design and quality you expect from adidas. Our intent is to make miCoach available on all the major mobile platforms in 11 languages worldwide.

I know many of you are patiently waiting for us to release the app so you can experience miCoach and the real-time coaching it provides. Please know that we are working as hard as we can to deliver miCoach to the Android platform. We also know that marathon training has already started for 2011 and the sooner we could deliver the better. While it is our policy not to pre-announce products or dates, I felt you needed to know how important the Android platform is to adidas and our commitment to support it is our highest priority.

Thanks for caring enough to keep the feedback coming...

    • I'd love to volunteer if you ever consider using beta testers - Especially since today my Pacer fell apart (Have already contacted support and hope it's covered by warranty).

I know it's unfair to be putting feature requests for something that isn't out yet -

... but I hope there's a way to have the App start/stop without touching the phone. Eg if you can start/stop run by clicking on the hands-free call button you find on phone's headsets, or if the App auto-detects you've stopped running and pauses. I need this because when I run I put my phone in an armband without a clear window - Don't like advertising my phone to everyone and have had experience in the past where a phone has developed marks from sticking to such windows when being put in and out fo such holders.

      • @srandom

That feature is already available on cardiotrainer.

It will auto-pause when it detects you have stopped.  For example:  yesterday while running the laces on my shoes came loose and as I stopped to tie the shoes again the voice on cardiotrainer came on "workout passed" and after that when I started running again the program also auto-resumed.

I also use an armband with my HTC Desire so the auto-pause/resume feature is very nifty.

    • Will be happy to be a beta tester too.

Have been a beta tester before.

I'm on an unlocked HTC Desire Z

    • ok, i want to wait for the android app, but in the mean time: stop redirecting the mobile page to the to downloads!! I just want to log in on my mobile phone on the regular site, and this seems to be impossible! Annoying to be redirect to a page where there is nothing for you.......

    • I offer myself as beta tester too (HTC Wildfire).

Besides, I have a "wish to". Please make the app compatible with your previous devices, so I can use my HR monitor and podometer of Adidas Samsung F-110 with the app (and the GPS).

      Thanks and regards.

      • Do you have any updates for us regarding the android version of micoach. I used the samsung f110 until yesterday the phone broke. I was going to try micoach for the BMW Berlin marathon this year. So can you tell me if there will be an app until 8th of May?

Im also willing to beta-test for you in a Samsung Galaxy S i9000 headset, unbranded from Germany.

        Thank you very much.

        Björn

  • If you happen to be in Barcelona, Spain this week, come by the Google android booth at the Mobile World Congress expo to catch a sneak peak of miCoach running on the new Nexus S mobile phone from Samsung.

    Main.pngSpeedUp.png

    • Jon, when will the app be available and will it be only on the Nexus S or all other new Android phones ?

I am just asking because I have an HTC Desire and would like to know if it will be able to run on that phone ?

      • We are testing the app on a handful of devices to insure the real-time coaching features, GPS accuracy, virtual/physical keyboards, and different display resolutions are working correctly. Once published to the android market, the app will be available to all android devices meeting the minimum requirements we have set forth such as OS 2.1 and higher. A press release is going out soon that will provide more information and I will link it here.

        • I am thrilled to hear this. Maybe there is a chance i will be able to try this for my planned 25 k run im May :-)  And the screenshots look very promising. I tipped Engadget about this and I hope they will send somewone over to your stand.

          Best regards, Björn

    • An Android app that looks better than it's iPhone counterpart?

      Blasphemy!

I found some more pics of the app....(not sure if i am allowed to post links, if not....please remove it.)

It says it will be released end of April.

I hope there will be a public beta before that date. Like there was for almost every successful or popular app on android :-p

But if not, I am very happy to have a micoach for my marathon debut in September :-)))))

And it says its going to be FREE !!!

A very good day! Thank you Adidas!

        Björn

        • In fact, I think being free is very neccesary, as there are a lot of very good sports applications for free (for example Endomondo). As much, the price for MiCoach should be about 2€, and that if the program accepts the HR monitor and podometer of other Adidas MiCoach devices like Pacer or Samsung F-110.

    • Jon:

I want to monitor heart rate and get GPS data. I assume I will need to continue to wear my micoach device and HRM, in addition to my andriod phone. Is that right?

      Thanks!

      • I really hope so (and not only on iPhone, but in every cell phone), if not, MiCoach would not be different from any other sports application (and there are lots).

        • In my opinion it is unlikely there will be heart rate monitoring, since there is no bluetooth belt from adidas yet, or is there? And I doubt that adidas app will support zephyre or polar. But I do not think it is like any other sports app out there. Because the selling point is the coaching feature. I could easily print out a coaching plan from runnersworld and program the intervals for every run into runkeepers app, but in the adidas app i get it synchronised once I chose a regimen. I can easily use a aditional cheap heartrate belt for monitoring. Although I have to agree with you that if I could program the perfect app for running it would be with heartratemonitoring like endomondo, sportstracker or runkeeper. Plus the social community features from nikeplus, which I find highly motivating.

Plus the very good background information which is provided from the micoach web.

          Björn

          • Well, I was going to say that I do wear an Adidas HR Monitor and Podometer (they came for free with the Adidas Samsung F-110 celular phone), but now we have  the answer of Jon about that and obviously that's much better than anything that I could say...

      • The current adidas miCoach Heart Rate Monitor and Stride Sensor use the ANT+ radio. TI (Texas Instruments) has partnered with Dynastream (Developers of ANT+) to enable the ANT+ radio in a limited number of android devices for Sony Ericsson, HTC, and others. adidas, of course, is monitoring these efforts closely as we are strong proponents of heart rate-based coaching and this would be a natural evolution of our mobile offerings.

        • Nice to hear that!! Sadly I have a couple of big races before the app will be released, but I will use it anyway when it be ready.

        • Jon:

Thanks for the quick and straight answer. I am eager to get the app, but not at the cost of losing my heart rate (HR) data. I am surprised that the Adidas folks would think it is a good idea to release the app without this feature, after all, the micoach device started out as a HR-based coaching device.

Clarify a few things for me. If I run with the andriod app, I get everything but HR, right? Do I still need to wear my footpod or micoach device or does the app handle all of their features (minus HR)? Is there a way to run with my micoach device/HRM/footpod and the andriod app and then merge the data so I can integrate GPS data into my micoach data along with HR?

          Thanks,

          astrouga

          • You will get everything but heart rate data. No need to wear anything else. You can run with the pacer to record heart rate and save the route created with the mobile app and then attach this route to the pacer workout. Remember to delete the mobile workout so that your stats are not duplicated. We've talked about doing this merge automatically and it is on the list of future enhancements but not currently scheduled for a release anytime soon.

            • In my modest opinion, the merge of the data, the possibility of getting all the data (speed, distance, HR, route) in the same exercise and with just one application should be the main feature. I think it's the only way to make the application really different and special, not just "another sports application".

I mean, if you can't get the HR data, MiCoach will be for sure a great application, but not very different from other applications. With HR monitoring included, would be the best (to be fair, there are other sports applications that can get HR data from for example Polar, but I presume all the people writing here have Adidas devices and gadgets).

              Regards.

              • While I agree to that it is still fact that most mobile devices do not support the ANT+ radio and thus cannot talk to many HR belts (adidas' included). I think they are preparing the app for that since jon werner mentioned the cooperation with Dynastream. So once there are ANT+ compatible Android devices out there the app will provide all the features in one place. Just be patient.

            • Jon,

Thanks again for the clear explanation. It is nice to know that I can combine the data to some degree, though I really don't need any more added steps in my workout process. ;-)

The reason I went with the micoach (and tossed my Nike device in the trash) was that it was different and better. Like others have said, there are other solutions on the market -- the Garmin watches do everything the micoach does but also gathers GPS data. The people I know using these devices won't even look at the micoach because of the lack of GPS and mapping in combo with HRM.

Glad to know that Adidas is working on a HR monitoring solution for the app. Without a HRM, the app is worthless to me -- I use the micoach for heart rate zone training. BTW, I would happily pay for the Adidas app if it had the features I wanted and I think other runners would too.

        • Hi John,

I've been using the android miCoach app for quite a time now, and love how easy its is and actually keeps me motivated to follow my training program.
Though I would really like to start with hart rate based training. I see in your threat that there are a number of HTC devices that support ANT+ devices. Is the Desire S one of them?
I understand that Adidas wants to make money with the pacer based package but you would probably reach a far more larger audience by accepting a ANT+ (seems to be only working in selected phones as of now) or bluetooth HRM to connect to the mobile app. I think a lot of people would love to pay for this add-on as a kind of micoach pro app.

          Regards,
          Didier

  • Do you have any updates on the topic? Will you meet the release date or is it coming before April? :-) And finally. I am very willing to beta test for you. And since I will run the Berin Halfmarathon next month I will have many runs to report to you :-))

    Björn

  • How much longer will it be until we finally see Micoach on the Android operating system. I used it on my iphone, but have now gone android.

  • And it is now April 29th... I still so nothing new. Is there an update? Please? I've successfully used micoach on my BlackBerry to move from a person who has never run in their life to just finishing my last 5K in under 35 minutes. My BlackBerry is now dead and want to continue moving forward with my training. I miss MICOACH!!

    • Hi duolos2k,

It's been delayed for a week to add some extra features. See below for the post of moderator Jon Werner in another thread.

      Re: Mobile Software for Android????

Here's  the scoop. Android app was scheduled for the end of this month (April).  We had some last minute capabilities added and pulled and this has  caused a week delay so keep your eyes peeled. This looks to be our  highest quality release for a new platform and we are very excited about  it. Thank you for your patience. I will post something to the forum  once miCoach is available in the market.

If  you are going to Google IO this year, please stop by the Google Sandbox  to see miCoach in action and to ask me any questions you may have in  person.

Here  are a couple of teaser screen shots. The first one showing the  languages supported at launch (English US and Korean are scrolled off)  and the second showing the miCoach widget in German

  • Waiting waiting waiting....

  • Have we got an exact date for the release yet?

    Please let us know

  • Ramo.jpg

    Works fine on my HTC

    • LOL, you got me looking in the market

Pff, it's a week later than the first planned release.. I would rather have had the app without the extra features and recieve an update when the extra features are ready

  • The adidas miCoach app for android is now available in the market.

Thank you for all of your patience and please give it a go and provide feedback here in the forums.

    Cheers,

    the mobile miCoach team.

    • Thank you so much. Just in Time to test on the Big 25 Asics Run in Berlin. And afterwards Time for a Great Marathon Plan.......Looks really smooth so far....This is so good. Goodbye runkeeper. Hello micoach

    • Thank you JON, Thank you Micoach, Thank you Adidas.

Seems so smooth compared with any other software. 41 miles this morning, out again tomorrow.

      Thanks

      • Thanks for providing us with this great app. I've been out for my assessment run (red zone felt a bit brutal!) and I'm going out again this afternoon. I'll give you more feedback as I use the app but so far it's shaping up to be the best training app on the market. The voice coaching I think will really make the difference.

        Thanks again!

        • Till now the app works fine, but I miss the HR configuration. I can't find where to sincronize the app with my HR band (the Samsung F-110 one). If is not possible to syncronize it, could be possible to use the android app for tracking the run and then implement the HR data from the Samsung F-110?

          • In my last message I think the correct verbe is "merge" and not "implement".

Anyway, I've seen is not possible. I tried a little trainings with Samsung F-110 (with HR band and podometer) and with HTC (with GPS and MiCoach app) and are not fusionable. The Samsung data says my PPM and steps but can't edit the training and include the GPS data, and with the HTC the same, I can see the track with elevation data and correct distance data, but can't include the steps data and PPM...

I still have to try the same training with both mobiles recording data at the same time, but I think the result will be the same...
