The new mobile app looks great.  Can't wait to get it on my iPhone.  What seems unclear is whether you can use the Pacer (or Zone) with the Mobile app, thereby getting the benefits of the heart rate tracking with the GPS and distance/calorie tracking of the App.  The HR monitoring (along with the coaching element) is really the selling point for this stuff.  If they don't work together though, there seems to be a trade off.

Any insight into how (if) they work together?

  • If you check under articles, there is a new one called Heart rate versus pace-how to choose.  I didn't read the whole thing, just skimmed it.  I think you have to choose one or other.  I am excited for this update.  I don't have a iphone yet, but will probably be getting one-it sounds great.

    • I don't think buying a iphone to use micoach mobile would be a good idea. Next generation of mobile should have an ant+ wireless chip, allowing them to communicate with standard heart rate monitors, stride sensors and other fitness equipments.

Iphone 4 aren't able to communicate with ant+ devces without a dongle, but at least the dongle is available. Note that actually, I don't think the micoach mobile app support the dongle, so you probably cannot connect it to your heart rate monitor. Maybe in a futur update.

According to http://news.yahoo.com/s/prweb/20100712/bs_prweb/prweb4235844, htc legend are ant+ enabled and are used to monitor the htc columbia team. So it seems we're just waiting for android support by adidas here.

I won't write about every phone manufacturer out there .... but what I really wanted, was a Samsung F110 with GPS (and ant+).

So as I'm quite happy with my pacer for now, I'll just wait ^^

  • I asked support about using the hrm with the mobile app, and here's the answer:

And are there any plans for an iPhone accessory to link the  app to a heart rate belt?
The App will be working with GPS and not with heart rate  monitor. That is why the app is useful for the outdoor sports where you  can get the GPS.
We are working on combining App with heart rate. Unfortunately I  cannot tell you when this is going to happen.

  • Is there going to be a PRO version of this app? I am happy to pay £20 for it if it syncs HRM & adidas - miCoach Stride Sensor to iPhone. What’s the point buying £110 miCoach compatible runners if you cant use it indoors to track the stats or get instructions! What’s the point buying MiPacer package if you have iPhone app that has got most of its features, but you can't sync two together in order to view all the stats? Can some one tell me whether I need to wait for MiCoach iPhone app to support these (HRM + Stride Sensor) or use my iPhone just as a player hooking it up to MiPacer? How long is it going to take to develop for HRM + Stride Sensor support?

  • What if you do the same workout on both pacer and mobile app, turn off the voice coaching at the mobile app, and use the pacer to record heart rate and step count?  When you sync them both, will they combine the data? or have two separate workouts?

I haven't been able to try it yet as it is already typhoon season where i live.  Anyone who tried it already, do let me know!

    • I have tried it today and found out that there are 2 workouts in stead of one recorded.

I'm still looking for a way to combine the data but so far no luck.

If anyone had any succes in combining the data I would love to know how.

      • Yea, I'd be very interested in knowing how to sync the two data sets together, clearly it doesn't work well to map a route manually if the GPS is going to have better record of it, and until the pacer has a GPS unit added to it (ease and lighter gear), then how does one get the phone and pacer/HRS/sensor working together to collect all stats?

        Thanks in advance!

      • Ahh thanks for the feedback, too bad at the moment you can't combine the workouts.

C'mon Adidas! make your stuff work together!  but I'd also be as appreciative for a runner whose a hacker/software engineer will make mobile+pacer work together!

  • Workouts based on HR will provide you more accurate information about burned calories, but the map route must be drawn manually. In order to get the best of both devices – Pacer and Mobile app – users can merge the data from the workouts in the following steps:

    1. Save your route from the mobile workout

    2. Delete your mobile workout.

3 Attach your route to your Pacer workout.

Why is the pace and distance different on my mobile than my Pacer device?

    • Thanks MariaT for the links to the FAQ.

The method mention in the links is just a compromise, but better than nothing I suppose.

but still I'm hoping it will be automated in the future!

    • Successfully merged the workouts with the tips provided.

But I miss the "timeline" feature though where you can see a little guy run around your route with details.

Also, if you keep doing this, your routes list might be to cumbersome as you keep on adding routes.

In any case, having GPS info in your run is awesome.

But I'm still hoping to see a more streamlined solution for users for both Mobile + Pacer!

    • Sorry am new to this so don't want to appear stupid.  But does this mean you have to press both start buttons (one on Pacer and one on Mobile phone) to get both results (heart rate from Pacer / GPS from phone)??

      Thanks

      • Yes major, you have to start both devices simultaneously (or with a couple of seconds delay)

  • sorry if this has been answered previously but if your using the micoach app at the same time as the pacer surely you would get voice clash as both will be relaying information to you ?

    • Are you using your mobile as your music player for the pacer? If so, do a free workout and turn Auto Updates off in the mobile settings to keep the app quite.

      • thanks for the reply , i am using the mobile app so i can still have the route maps, so i guess the same principle applies and then merge the workouts as discussed previously ?
